There is a powerful verse in the 59th chapter of Isaiah that states:
So shall they fear The name of the Lord from the west,
And His glory from the rising of the sun;
When the enemy comes in
like a flood The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.
The Battle Standard
Throughout history and the pages of the Bible we see that when an army or company of warriors assembled they were united under a battle standard. This standard was an ensign, a banner or a flag. It was a physical symbol of something that represented their values and their principles. It represented something so powerful that it was worth dying for.
The 12 tribes of Israel each had a banner that served as their standard, each with unique markings that represented their calling and purpose. Their identity was found symbolically in what the standard represented.
“The sons of Israel shall camp, each by his own standard, with the banners of their fathers’ households; they shall camp around the tent of meeting at a distance.”
Numbers 2:2
These battle standards have evolved and can be seen through the pages of history represented as:
- The Creed of Ancient Warriors
- The Coat of Arms of Medieval Knights
- The Code of today’s Special Forces
Today’s Modern Christian Man
We have never lived in a time with so many comforts and so many challenges. We are under attack and taking hits on all sides. We must stand on guard against our enemy, the world and ourselves.
In the midst of fighting on multiple fronts the Lord makes us a promise. It’s a vow, that when our enemies are flooding in He will lift up a STANDARD against them.
The STANDARD referenced in Isaiah 59:19 is the Lord's battle standard, it is a war flag that signifies conquest, authority and that The Lord, Himself is ready to go to war with us.
